Why should my organization consider SHIFT credentials and certifications?

With Technology First taking center stage in the disability community, organizations and states want to know what this means, and how it can benefit them. SHIFT education answers these questions and provides standardized best practices and practical tools. For agencies and providers to be innovative and current, their leaders and staff must be equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to maximize the possibilities of technology. SHIFT’s educational platform and expertise help organizations and states adopt a true Technology First culture.

How many staff members from our organization should participate in SHIFT’s education program?

Organizations can choose an education package for as many or as few people as they want.  SHIFT does make recommendations for the number of credentialed and certified staff members that are needed for organizational transformation.  However, only organizations pursuing accreditation are required to meet these minimum requirements.

Does SHIFT credential and certify individual learners?

Yes, individual learners are encouraged to register for any of SHIFT’s credentials or certifications. In addition to expanding one’s knowledge base, SHIFT credentials and certifications increase one’s marketability in the field. Add in the perks of free continuing education, opportunities to network with like-minded professionals and access to practical tools, earning a credential or certification through SHIFT just makes sense.

What is the time commitment for completing SHIFT credentials and certifications?

Can we substitute a different person if an enrolled staff member leaves our organization?

Your organization can expect the following time commitment for each of SHIFT’s credentials/certifications.  Keep in mind that people learn at their own pace – some learners may complete the requirements more quickly while others will take longer.

  • Enabling Technology Credential (ETC) – 5 Hours

  • Enabling Technology Integration Specialist (ETIS) – 14 Hours

  • Enabling Technology Navigator (ETN) – 14 Hours

  • Enabling Technology Leader (ETL) – 14 Hours

To support organizational transformation, we require all credentials and certifications to be completed within three (3) months of the enrollment date. We have found this to support momentum and transformation. You may want to take this into consideration as you plan for the combination of online education and experiential learning.  In extenuating circumstances, learners can apply for an extension which is reviewed by SHIFT staff.

Yes, if the enrolled staff person has not yet accessed the learning plan (curriculum) or has only completed the orientation.
